Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking official commented the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
